MENEHUNE

The Menehune are the native fae of Hawaii. Similar to the Nunnehi, they are more spiritual and ritualistic than the Kithain.
The Menehune observe strict rules in their society and, unlike the Kithain, generally respect their individual places in their society. Their rules are furthermore enforced by the taboos. When the Menehune break taboos, they are not only treated as oathbreakers by the others, but they are actually chased by a chimerical entity that enforces the taboos.
There are four "callings" of Menehune, like kiths for the Kithain. Rather than Seelie or Unseelie courts, the Menehune have "Feast" or "War" camps. The Menehune ally with totem spirits like the Nunnehi, and are able to traverse the Umbra in the same way as the Nunnehi do.

CALLINGS OF THE MENEHUNE

[[Ali'i]] (ah-LEE-ee): The ali'i are the rulers of the Menehune. Fair and wise rulers, the ali'i are usually followed without question by the other callings. The ali'i come by this unquestioned respect by maintaining an equal respect for their people and their individual places and roles. The ali'i are supernaturally beautiful and awe inspiring, exactly as the sidhe are. They are also able to store large amounts of mana (Glamour) in themselves for the use of their people. This is an important function of the ali'i, since the Menehune do not have freeholds. They are more vulnerable to Banality than the other Menehune, and the mana that they store can be destroyed by others violating certain personal taboos regarding the ali'i. Stepping in the ali'i's shadow is taboo, and will destroy some of the stored mana, so is failing to bow before an ali'i. In their fae miens, ali'i look like exceptionally beautiful native Hawaiians.

[[Hana]] (HAH-nah): The builders and craftspeople of the Menehune, hana have many similarities to the boggans of the Kithain. The hana are a jolly people, who often play little pranks on the other callings so long as the pranks do not break any taboos. As long as they work unobserved, a group of hana working together can build any traditional structure in a single night. A hana declares when they start how long it will take them to finish a given task. If they do not finish within the time they have given themselves, for any reason, they will abandon the project and never return to it. Hana are usually short and plump, and wear traditional clothing.

[[Kahuna]] (ka-HOO-nah): The mystical and spiritual leaders of Menehune society, kahunas communicate with and appease the spirits and keep the taboos. A majority of kahunas can even change the taboos, if enough evidence from the spirit world seems to favor the change. Once per month, and only with good reason, a kahuna may break a taboo and get away with it without negative repercussions. All kahuna can speak to spirits and understand their languages. Kahunas are often given to falling into sudden trances, as stray whispers from the spirit world are heard by them. The stars shine in the eyes of the fae mien of a kahuna.

[[Kokua]] (koe-KOO-ah): The warriors and protectors of the Menehune. The kokua are usually hot-headed, boastful and violent, but they are the enforcers of the ali'i's laws, and the ones who defend the Menehune from outsiders. Kokua often allied with the Shark totem in the past, but many have allied with rock totems in recent years due to the scarcity of the great sea animals. Kokua are faster and quicker than the average, and all are taught to fight early on. The kokua are often governed by their anger, and often tend to kill enemies rather than capture them, often in very painful or cruel ways. The kokua appear to be perfect physical specimens, and are always fit. They wear little clothing usually, to better display their tatoos.
